West Java Police Arrest Taufik Hidayat

JAKARTA, Headline24.id – The calls for Taufik Hidayat, the suspect in the case of torture and confinement of a woman with the initials YTR (29), to be charged with multiple articles are growing stronger. Several members of the House of Representatives have asked law enforcement officials to impose the maximum penalty, including considering chemical castration if the alleged criminal elements meet the applicable legal provisions.

This case, which has captured public attention, is considered not only to involve alleged assault and confinement but also concerns the protection of women from repeated acts of violence.

House of Representatives Asks Taufik Hidayat to Be Charged with Multiple Articles

The Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Habiburokhman, has asked the police to use all available legal instruments to ensnare the suspect.

"The case committed by Taufik Hidayat deeply offends our humanity. Therefore, I ask and urge law enforcement officials not to hesitate to charge the perpetrator with multiple articles of law with the heaviest penalties," said Habiburokhman in a written statement on Wednesday (24/6/2026).

According to him, investigators can apply articles in the Criminal Code (KUHP) related to confinement and severe assault. In addition, law enforcement officials are also asked to explore the possibility of applying the Law on Criminal Acts of Sexual Violence (UU TPKS) if relevant elements are found during the investigation process.

"Maximum and multiple penalties for Taufik Hidayat are not only for justice for the victim who has experienced deep trauma but also as a strong warning and a real deterrent for anyone not to commit similar heinous acts," he said.

Habiburokhman emphasized that Commission III of the House of Representatives will continue to monitor the developments of the case until the legal process is completed in court.

Appreciation for West Java Regional Police's Swift Action

In his statement, Habiburokhman also expressed his appreciation to the West Java Regional Police for successfully apprehending the suspect after he had been on the run.

"This swift action demonstrates the strong commitment of the West Java Regional Police in providing a sense of security to the community, while also proving that the state is present and does not provide any room for acts of violence against women," he said.

Taufik's arrest was carried out by a joint team from the West Java Regional Police in a residential area in Ciparay District, Bandung Regency, on Tuesday (23/6/2026) at around 18:30 WIB.

Proposal for Chemical Castration for the Perpetrator

Meanwhile, Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives from the PKB Faction, Abdullah, asked law enforcement officials to consider the maximum sanctions against the suspect, including chemical castration.

"This arrest must be followed by a firm and uncompromising legal process. This crime is not just ordinary assault; it is an act that robs the victim of freedom and repeatedly destroys their dignity over a long period. The perpetrator deserves chemical castration," said Abdullah.

According to him, the proposal is based on the alleged pattern of repeated violence committed by the suspect.

The police previously revealed that Taufik's ex-wife also claimed to have been a victim of violence by the suspect.

"The fact that the perpetrator allegedly committed violence against his ex-wife indicates a dangerous behavioral pattern. Chemical castration is not only a form of punishment but also an effort to protect society, especially women, from the potential threat of the perpetrator in the future," he said.

House of Representatives Encourages the Opening of a Victim Complaint Post

In addition to advocating for severe punishment, Abdullah also asked the police to open a special complaint post to anticipate the possibility of other victims.

According to him, this step is important so that victims who have not dared to report can have a safe space to submit their complaints.

"This step is important to thoroughly investigate the perpetrator's pattern of violence. If there are indeed other victims who have not dared to speak out, the state must be present to provide full protection, both legally and psychologically," said Abdullah.

Moved Locations While on the Run

The Head of the West Java Regional Police, Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, revealed that during his escape, the suspect moved locations several times to avoid pursuit by law enforcement.

"His escape took him to Tangerang. He was confused and felt unsafe there, then returned to West Java. He felt scared, suspicious of everyone, didn't know where to go, until he finally reached Majalaya and was caught," said Rudi.

Currently, investigators are continuing to delve into the case to gather evidence and investigate the possibility of other unreported victims.
