JAKARTA, Headline24.id – The IHSG is moving consolidatively in Tuesday's (23/6/2026) trading session, following investors' cautious stance as they await the MSCI Annual Market Classification Review results and S&P Global's latest evaluation of Indonesia. Both agendas are expected to be the main factors determining the direction of the domestic stock market in the short term.

In Monday's (22/6/2026) trading, the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) closed up 0.98 percent at 6,116.6. Despite experiencing selling pressure for most of the trading session, the index managed to return to the green zone by closing.

The strengthening occurred amidst increasing investor attention to a number of global and domestic sentiments that could affect capital flows into the Indonesian market.

IHSG Moves Consolidatively Awaiting MSCI Review Results

Phintraco Sekuritas assesses that market participants are currently tending to adopt a wait-and-see approach ahead of the MSCI review announcement scheduled for June 24, 2026.

MSCI's decision is of significant concern as it will determine whether Indonesia retains its status as an Emerging Market in their global index. This status has been one of the factors maintaining the attractiveness of the Indonesian capital market to international institutional investors.

Any classification change has the potential to affect Indonesia's weighting in global benchmark indices used by various world investment managers. Therefore, many market participants believe the IHSG is moving consolidatively while awaiting certainty from the MSCI decision.

In addition to the MSCI agenda, investors are also closely watching S&P Global's evaluation of Indonesia's credit profile. On the other hand, the implementation of the Financial Sector Development and Strengthening Law (UU P2SK) remains a concern as it is considered to influence market sentiment.

Sector Movements and Rupiah in Focus

Sectoral stock movements in the previous trading session showed mixed performance. The basic materials sector was the deepest declining sector, down 2.49 percent.

Conversely, the energy sector recorded the highest gain with a 1.47 percent increase and became one of the main supports for the index.

In the foreign exchange market, the rupiah exchange rate closed down 0.22 percent at Rp17,843 per US dollar. The weakening occurred in line with the strengthening of the US dollar, which pressured most currencies in the Asian region.

This condition causes the IHSG to move consolidatively as investors are still weighing various sentiments coming from global and domestic markets.

IHSG Technical Levels to Watch

Technically, Phintraco Sekuritas notes that the IHSG is still moving above the MA10 and MA20 moving averages, although it closed below the MA5.

The MACD histogram is still in positive territory. However, the Stochastic RSI indicator is starting to show a reversal towards the pivot area, which needs to be watched by market participants.

"If the IHSG closes below the 6,100 level, it has the potential to test the psychological level of 6,000. However, if it can still hold above 6,100, a consolidation movement is expected to continue in the range of 6,050 to 6,220," wrote Phintraco Sekuritas in its research on Monday (22/6/2026).

Analysts assess that the IHSG is moving consolidatively as long as there is no certainty from the MSCI review results or Indonesia's credit evaluation by S&P Global.

Selected Stocks for Short-Term Trading

Amidst the lack of domestic catalysts, BRI Danareksa Sekuritas recommends a number of stocks worth considering for a short-term trading strategy.

Some of the stocks included in the recommendation list are GULA, PIPA, ESIP, OASA, and HMSP.

With continued high attention to the MSCI and S&P Global agendas, investors are expected to remain selective in making investment decisions. In the short term, the IHSG is moving consolidatively until the market gains clarity regarding the results of these two important agendas.
