JAKARTA – Headline24.id – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) continues to investigate alleged gratification involving the former Secretary General (Sekjen) of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia, Ma'ruf Cahyono. In his first examination after being named a suspect, investigators clarified his official income sources and alleged receipt of money during Ma'ruf's tenure as Secretary General of the MPR.
The examination lasted approximately 10 hours on Thursday (25/6/2026). As of now, the KPK has not detained Ma'ruf because the investigation process is still ongoing and investigators are still gathering additional evidence.
"In this examination, investigators clarified matters related to official income and the receipt of money during the person concerned's tenure as Secretary General of the MPR," said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Friday (26/6/2026).
First Examination After Becoming a Suspect
According to information gathered by Headline24.id, this examination was the first for Ma'ruf since he was officially named a suspect in the alleged gratification case related to procurement within the MPR RI environment.
Despite being a suspect, the KPK has not yet made an arrest. The anti-graft agency stated that the investigation still requires further exploration to ensure the case file is complete before proceeding to the prosecution stage.
"Yes, of course, investigation processes are still needed, gathering additional evidence, so that later it will be truly firm, truly strong, to then proceed to stage 2 or be handed over for prosecution," said Budi.
Ma'ruf Denies Being Questioned About Receiving Money
After undergoing the examination, Ma'ruf Cahyono stated that he had provided all the explanations requested by the investigators. However, he denied that any questions specifically discussed the alleged receipt of money.
"Yes, I was just asked, and I explained according to the facts. No (was I questioned about receiving money), I have explained everything," said Ma'ruf.
Ma'ruf also denied that he was questioned about the alleged gratification amounting to Rp17 billion, which was previously revealed by the KPK.
"No, it didn't get to that point. I mean, the questions didn't go that far," he said.
Alleged Rp17 Billion Gratification Still Under Investigation
The KPK previously revealed that it was investigating alleged gratification related to procurement within the MPR RI. In this case, Ma'ruf Cahyono, who served as Secretary General of the MPR for the period 2019–2021, has been named a suspect.
Investigators suspect the suspect received approximately Rp17 billion. However, the exact amount of gratification is still being calculated and investigated through the ongoing investigation process.
