Government Allocates Rp8 Trillion for Accelerated Renovation of 400,000 Homes by 2026

The 2026 home renovation program targets 400,000 units across Indonesia.

Jayapura — The government has allocated a budget of approximately Rp8 trillion to accelerate the development and rehabilitation of uninhabitable houses across Indonesia in 2026. This program is part of a national effort to improve decent housing for low-income communities.

Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian stated that the house renovation program is a mandate from President Prabowo Subianto, implemented through the Ministry of Housing and Settlements with budgetary support from the State Budget and non-State Budget funding sources.

“The number of houses to be renovated in all regions of Indonesia will increase significantly from around 45,000 units in 2025 to around 400,000 units in 2026,” he said in Jayapura on Monday.

According to Tito Karnavian, the selection of recipient areas for assistance is based on the percentage of uninhabitable houses and the number of people who do not yet own a home. He emphasized that the Papua region is one of the priorities because it still has a high number of uninhabitable houses.

“Based on government data, this percentage is still considered high in the Papua region, making it one of the priorities,” he said.

In addition, the visit to Kampung Mosso, Muara Tami District, Jayapura City, was described as a form of government attention to border areas in Papua. This program is also strengthened by the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) which targets thousands of housing units in the region.

“And for the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) program, it will target 22,379 housing units throughout Papua. This is a very significant increase,” he said.

Technically, the implementation of house rehabilitation will begin simultaneously on June 24, 2026, and is targeted for completion in August 2026. This program is expected to accelerate equitable access to decent housing in various regions.

At the regional level, Jayapura Mayor Abisai Rollo stated that Jayapura City has received an allocation of 499 housing units in the house renovation program from the central government.

He explained that Kampung Mosso was chosen as the symbolic implementation location because it is in a border area. However, the program implementation will be expanded to various other areas in Jayapura City and throughout Papua.

“In Kampung Mosso, there are 36 housing units that will be renovated. We also directly witnessed the open tender process for building material suppliers, so the supplier with the best price will be appointed as the material procurement executor,” he said.

In addition to improving the quality of community housing, the local government assesses that this program also helps reduce the burden on the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) in providing decent housing.
